What is a self-check in?

  • An intentional meeting with yourself, your current state of being, feeling, physically, mentally, emotionally

  • An opportunity to reconnect with yourself, what you want, how life is going, and what might need to change or stay the same

  • When should you do them?

    • Every quarter

    • Every time something in your schedule shifts

    • Every time you have more, less, or new responsibilities

  • Why should you do them?

    • Checking in allows you to notice what's working and whats not

    • become more efficient

    • Make sure your needs are being met

    • Acknowledge and validate what you're currently experiencing

    • no one else will know what you need better than yourself

  • Where to start?

    • Carve out an hour of time

    • Go somewhere if you can - the park, the library, hide in the bathroom of your car if you need to

    • Calm your nervous system - 4-7-8 breathing exercise

    • Check in with your body

    • Put on some music or ASMR that helps you feel inspired and grounded - this could be Enya, spa music, or rain sounds you YouTube

    • Bring a blank notebook and your favorite pen

    • Ask yourself 5 simple questions

      • What am I constantly thinking about lately? What's been top of mind?

      • What do I want more of right now? (experiential and tangible)

      • What do I want less of? (experiential and tangible)

      • What times of the day do I feel the most frustrated? Why?

      • What times of day do I feel the most at peace? Why?

  • What are your current allowances and reminders for self?

    • I am allowed to have changing wants, needs, and ideas

    • I am allowed to make new choices that may be vastly different than choices I made in the past

    • I am allowed to "break the rules" of my day when I need to

  • What resources do you want to come back to? Articles, books, podcasts that help you remember who you are and who you want to be

  • Action Zone:

    • When will I plan my week?

    • When will I plan my day?

    • When will I do this check in again? Put it on the calendar, set a reminder.
