7 Shifts I’ve made that have changed my daily life

Today I'm sharing 7 things I've done recently that have influenced my mindset, joy, and overall life outlook. I hope they inspire you, too!

I’m excited to share seven powerful shifts that have completely transformed my daily life. From changing my mindset to adopting simple daily habits, these shifts have brought me greater peace, productivity, and even more enjoyment. If you’re feeling a bit stuck or want a fresh perspective, these tips may bring you the inspiration you’re looking for!

1. Decluttering: Finding Mental Energy in a Clear Space

This past year, I’ve been on a mission to drastically declutter my life. After moving, I realized how much “stuff” had accumulated, especially during the pandemic. I finally tackled my kitchen, a space that felt like the heart of my home. I removed unnecessary items, organized what was left, and created dedicated places for everything. Now, my kitchen counters are clear, Tupperware lids are paired with their containers, and I find joy in simple tasks. Decluttering has given me more mental energy and made meal prep and cooking easier.

2. Rediscovering Music

Listening to music has become a daily mood-booster. When I was younger, music was my constant companion, but over time I found myself listening less and less. Recently, I set up a small TV in the kitchen with streaming apps, and it’s become a way to add music to my life again. It’s a wonderful distraction from stress, keeping my mind occupied with positive vibes. Now, cooking, cleaning, or just spending time in the kitchen is a lot more fun—and I’ve noticed it also reduces my screen time on other devices.

3. Practicing Gratitude: Focusing on What I Have

In my late 30s, I sometimes catch myself comparing my life to others. But I’ve made a conscious shift to focus on what I do have rather than what I don’t. This isn’t just about simple gratitude exercises; it’s about finding deep appreciation for the meaningful things in my life—like my relationship with my mom. Recognizing and celebrating these little joys reduces my anxiety and fills my mind with gratitude, helping me crowd out negative thoughts and reducing the urge to “look over the fence” at what I might be missing.

4. Redefining Happiness: Embracing Good and Bad

One big realization has been that happiness isn’t about everything going perfectly. I used to think a “good life” was free of bad moments, but I now understand that life is a mix of ups and downs. Embracing this idea has helped me appreciate happy moments even in hard times. Life doesn’t need to be perfect to find happiness; we can hold space for the joy and the struggles simultaneously.

5. Acknowledging Struggles

Reflecting on the hard times is crucial because it reminds us of what we’ve been through and how resilient we are. I’ve had stretches in recent years where I was sick or dealing with personal challenges, but I can look back and see how far I’ve come. By acknowledging your struggles, you also get a clearer picture of your accomplishments despite obstacles. This shift has made me more appreciative of my own journey and has helped me stay grounded.

6. Finding Joy in Little Obsessions

Pick something small that brings you joy and let it become a mini scavenger hunt in your life. Right now, I’m obsessed with strawberries. I find strawberry-themed items everywhere, and it brings me so much joy. Little themed “obsessions” like these can create a fun, mindful game as you go about your day. Plus, it can be a way to connect with others—my mom and I now send each other photos of strawberry-themed finds whenever we come across them. It’s a simple thing, but it’s a wonderful way to bring more delight into life.

7. Living for Every Day (Not Just the Weekends)

Instead of only looking forward to the weekend, I now make an effort to cherish every single day. Simple moments, like a special Thursday night ritual, can make every day feel fulfilling. Life isn’t just about waiting for big events or weekends—it’s about finding joy and creating memories in the little things throughout the week. Embracing this perspective has made a huge difference in how I feel about my day-to-day routine.

By focusing on these seven shifts, I’ve created more space for gratitude, joy, and intentionality. If you’re inspired by any of these ideas, try implementing one or two in your own life. You might be surprised at the difference a small shift can make. Thank you for joining me, and I’d love to hear which of these resonates with you!
